End of Summer/Beginning of Learning

by Mary Ellen

As hard as it is to believe, we complete the 2016 Summer Reading program today. It has been a whirlwind of activity since our Summer Reading Kick-off on June 13th. There were 979 participants and many of those finished the program and completed their game boards. There were also contests, entertainers, and that high level of energy that happens every summer in the Children’s Department. So today, we will be celebrating those in the community who read books, entered our contests, and attended our programs. A big thank you goes out from us to you! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your family’s summer plans and for allowing us to be a part of your children’s lives.

Beginning next week, you will notice some changes in the Children’s Department. The present Summer Reading Desk will again become our Makerspace area where children will explore learning, creating, and crafting. In addition, we will be switching gears to prepare for the new school year and the needs of students and teachers, as well as preschoolers and their families. During this time, we hope you will continue to share your time with us as we prepare to read and learn throughout the autumn months and a new season of reading.
